Sammons, (1948) and much-loved son-in-law, Austin Wagoner; three brothers (Howard, Ray, & Jesse); and three sisters (Louise, Era,& Hester). She is survived by her loving children: Kathleen Wagoner of Ona, WV; Charles “Sonny” Sammons and wife, Sue of Virginia; and Mary Frances (Ditty) Baxla of Florida; one brother, Glen Beckett age 91 and wife, Marie of Charleston, WV; brother-in-law, Ernest Sammons, age 100 of Michigan; 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; special niece, Doris Rayburn of Logan, W.Va.; twenty-five other loving nieces and nephews; and loyal alternate caregiver and friend,” Mary”. Dorothy was born March 29, 1917 in Logan Co. to Gobe Eustice and Laura Pratt Beckett . In 1934, she married and became the wife and pioneer-spirited helpmate to her farmer and coalminer husband Alva. After Alva’s death, she moved with her children to live in Cabell Co., W.Va, where she became a dedicated Owens-Illinois employee of 45 years. Upon her retirement from Owens, she devoted herself to helping others, lending a hand wherever needed. Whether she was Dorothy, Dot, Mother, Mom, Mimaw, Aunt Dot, or friend, she was always the tireless helper – doing and giving. Her later years were spent living with her truly loving and devoted caregiver daughter. Many thanks to family, dear friends, neighbors, and her church family for helping enrich her life with love, hugs, and assistance. She loved the visits and the many hours of working puzzles which brought her joy. And, her help to others will continue with the donation of her body to Marshall University’s Human Gift Registry for medical research and education, a valued and symbolic gift which reflects Dorothy’s selfless and generous character – a giver in life and, also, in death. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be conducted on at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at the Guyandotte Church of Christ located at 3rd Ave. and Staunton St. in Huntington, where Dorothy was a member. Minister Robert Huron will conduct the Memorial service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial donations may be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Guyandotte Church of Christ Children's Camp Fund, 207 Staunton Street, Huntington, WV 25702. We, her family, extend our sincere appreciation for all the love and fond memories you shared with our cherished Mother Dorothy Sammons throughout her long and truly blessed life.
