December 15, 1930 - April 12, 2020
Just before sunrise on Resurrection Sunday morning, Don McMellon passed gently from this earth and met his Savior, Jesus Christ, face to face! He was also reunited with his loving wife Eloise, and other loved ones already in Heaven. Don was a strong, yet gentle man who loved the Lord more than anyone else and made it his life’s mission to bring others to salvation in Jesus. He was never afraid to share the Gospel and did so whenever he had an opportunity. Donald Raymond McMellon was born December 15, 1930 to the late Eva and Boyce McMellon of Barboursville, WV. He was the middle child of seven siblings and preceded in death by sister, Jewel Bledsoe and brother, Thurman McMellon. He is survived by his brother, Orvis (Bernie) McMellon of Proctorville, OH, and sisters, Joyce Stull of Ormond Beach, FL, Shirley Garrett of Proctorville, OH and Betty (Buddy) Beckett of Barboursville, WV. Don and his wife, Frances Eloise Davis McMellon were married in 1949 and soon had three children, Ann (Phil) Newberry, David (Sandy) McMellon and Fred McMellon. Don and Eloise had 7 grandchildren, Deide (Kevin) McComas, Matthew (Donna) McMellon, Lori McMellon, Heather Nye, Shannon McMellon, Carrie McMellon and Valerie Dalton. They also were blessed with 10 great grandchildren, Shealynn (Kyra) White, Jake McComas, Maddie McComas, JD Dalton, Kirstin White, Collin McMellon, Tinnah McMellon, Drew Nye, Henry McMellon, Owen Dalton and one great-great grandson, Reeve White. Don was a graduate of Tennessee Temple University where he received a Bachelors degree along with a minor in ministry. He was very active in the bus ministry at Highland Park Baptist Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee and was also a school teacher for several years during his preaching ministry. Don was a faithful minister of the Gospel for more than 60 years, leading hundreds of souls to the Lord. He also had the privilege of baptizing a multitude of new believers. During that time he had the honor of performing the wedding ceremony for countless couples. In addition, he was a founding member of WTSF Christian broadcasting station, a pastor of numerous churches and even a small business owner. During his later years of retirement, Don enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing and feeding the birds. He loved shopping flea markets and farmers stands, always looking for a deal. He loved to share everything he had with his family and often it was a wonderful meal or even a bowl of popcorn or his favorite ice cream. Whether you called him Don, Dad, Brother, Pastor, Papaw, Uncle, neighbor or friend, you’re heart is likely sad that he had to go but you are rejoicing in knowing that we will spend eternity with him in Heaven one day. Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, WV with Pastor David Lemming officiating. Burial will follow. Henson and Kitchen Mortuary, 6357 East Pea Ridge Road, Huntington, WV near Barboursville is caring for the family.
