Patty Rader Lyon

Patty Rader Lyon “You gave me life and showed me kindness, and in Your care, You watched over my life.” Job 10:12 Patty was born July 30, 1931 in South Charleston, West Virginia, to the late Ward (Alec) Rader and Ruth Robinson Rader, and went to be with her Savior in her heavenly home on Saturday, July 18, 2026. She graduated from South Charleston High School in 1949, where she was an honor graduate and majorette. She worked for the C&P Telephone Company and Union Carbide as a secretary. While her husband, Ken, was in the Air Force she worked as secretary at the Air Force Technical Training Headquarters in Gulfport, Mississippi. She volunteered with many community and service organizations throughout the years. What brought her the greatest joy was the time she spent teaching the kindergarten Sunday School, first at Highlawn Baptist Church in St. Albans, West Virginia and then at First Baptist Church in La Marque, Texas for over 20 years. She retired as administrative secretary for the Superintendent of Schools and Board Clerk for the Board of Trustees of La Marque Independent School District in La Marque, Texas. Patty was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart, husband of 63 years, Guy Kenneth Lyon, in 2013. She is survived by her sister, Jackie Poole of Belpre, Ohio. Also left behind to cherish her memory are her devoted children, Dr. Kenneth Lyon (Margie) of Huntington; Rev. Kevin Lyon (Donna) of Clinton, Arkansas; and Patricia Lyon Lynn (Shannon) of Austin, AR; six grandchildren, Kevin Wayne Lyon (Debra), Stephen Todd (Amanda), Dr. Joshua Lyon (Kayla), Elizabeth Ann Palese (Michael), Dr. Jacob Lyon and Jennifer Agee (Andy) and eight great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews whom she dearly loved. Patty was presently a member of Lewis Memorial Baptist Church in Huntington. She had attended International Bible Study Fellowship for seven years in Teays Valley and was a discussion leader five of those years. Special thank you to the staff at The Village at Riverview Retirement Home for loving and caring for our mom during her stay. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at Henson and Kitchen Mortuary and Cremation Servivces 1592 E. Pea Ridge Rd. Huntington, WV near Barboursville with Dr. David Lemming officiating. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans, WV.
