Jewel Evelyn McCallister passed away peacefully on Friday, June 7, 2024, in the Huntington Health and Rehabilitation Center due to congestive heart failure. She was born September 28, 1937, in Mason County, WV, daughter of Roland Levi and Mamie Bledsoe McCallister. For many years she worked for Lilly Electrical Sales, as well as members of their family and at the Eastwood Daycare Center where she loved the children, parents, and co-workers. She was a loving mother, friend, and companion always ready to jump in the car for a trip just down the road or a vacation travel adventure. She loved the outdoors and was an avid walker. Her favorite walk was at Lake Forest in Willow Wood, OH with “grand dogs” Sandy, Sissie and Wally trotting down the path with her and usually a few of the neighbor’s cats in the mix too. She attended services at the Lighthouse Baptist Church as often as her health allowed and was baptized there last year. We are grateful for Pastor Dennis Morello for his home visits, kindness, and spiritual guidance. She is survived by her daughter Deb McCallister, her life partner Fred Turner, and what she jokingly referred as that darn cat RustyButt. She was preceded in death by her parents and ten siblings. Sisters Velvie, Opal, Gladys Powell, Faye Greenwood, Sarah Neal, and Ruth Kittle; and brothers Esker “Mac”, Leonard, Joe and Carl “Paddle” McCallister. A special Thank You for the aides and nurses of the fourth floor at Huntington Health and Rehabilitation Center. Their kindness and attention to her needs gave her comfort and it was reassuring for us, knowing she was well taken care of. We also want to thank so many others for all the prayers, love and support these last few years. It is deeply appreciated. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Thursday June 13, 2024, at Henson and Kitchen Mortuary and Cremation Services, 6357 E. Pea ridge Rd. Huntington, WV near Barboursville with Pastor Dennis Morello officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Huntington, WV. The family will receive friends Visitation from noon until 1:00 PM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Huntington, Cabell, Wayne, Huntington Animal Shelter or Advocates Saving Adoptable Pets (ASAP), or the animal rescue group of your choice. She loved all cats and dogs and helped her daughter care for and find homes for many of them over the years.
